Twig is a 4 year old spayed female Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Twig was surrendered to our rescue due to the failing health of her owner. Twig was an only dog and is what we call a “velcro” Chessie. She prefers the company of humans, especially her human. She is okay with other dogs and has lived in a foster home with 3 other dogs. She is great 90% of the time but she does get overstimulated and will pounce on another dog. She is easy to call off and settles back in just fine but the owners must manage this. Twig has yet to bite or cause any harm to any other dog but others dogs have responded this action aggressively and she is typically on the losing end.

Twig loves to play fetch, go for walks, hang out in the backyard with her human. She is housebroken and kennel trained. Twig will need a fenced in yard. Twig does not like being left outside alone in a kennel for long periods of time. She loves to go with you on car rides and gets very excited for the first mile and then settles in for the ride. She is getting better at this as she hates to be left and will bark if you drive away. However, if you leave her at home inside, she is just fine.

Twig would be a great only dog or would do fine in a home with other dogs if the owners are experienced and can watch for signs of her over-stimulation to prevent her pouncing. Twig’s foster mom was able to manage the over-stimulation with a simple “leave it” when she saw Twig tense and fixate on another dog.
