Louie’s Trip – Day One
Louie’s transport started Saturday morning in Lafayette. He traveled with Margaret to Baton Rouge where he was transferred to John. John took Louie to Kentwood.
In Kentwood, Louie was picked up by Cathy for his ride to Jackson, MS. Kentwood is the home of Kentwood Spring Water and Brittany Spears! Little local trivia, I (Pam) am originally from Covington, LA and actually John worked with my dad and brother for years, so thanks John for taking the bait when you received calls from Dad, Jeff and me! Like you had a choice!!! Thanks.
Louie traveled with Cathy to Jackson. Louie has been struggling with a little car sickness along the way. A lot of stress on his already stressed system. Traveling is not easy but add to it traveling with strangers and the ugly heartworms. Poor little guy is doing really well considering his plight. Louie is quite skinny and has obviously had a tough first year or so of life. So glad he is being transported by such a wonderful group of volunteers!!!
Louie’s journey continues in Jackson, MS with Cherry. I must thank Community Animal Rescue Association (CARA) for helping us find volunteers to assist in Louie’s transport. They posted our needs to their Facebook page and both Cherry and Cathy volunteer through CARA (I believe I am correct on this??) This transport is truly a testament to the power of Facebook, the Internet and the kindness of strangers.
On to Batesville, MS where Donna and Carl picked up our little traveler for his ride to Steele MO. Okay another bit of trivia – the only bit I know, Batesville is the home of Batesville Casket Company! Louie apparently missed all the many sights and storms between Batesville, MS and Steele, MO! He missed Tennessee, crossing the mighty Mississippi River, Arkansas and crossing over into the Show Me state of Missouri. He slept through quite a storm but was obviously in good hands as Donna and Carl delivered him to his next drivers in Steele, MO.
In Steele, MO, Louie was met by Chuck and Jean. Now Chuck and Jean were not dog people (I hear Louie may have changed that???). Chuck is the Exec Director of the Cape Girardeau, MO Visitor’s Bureau and received an “out of the blue” email from me searching for a ride for Louie. Thank You Chuck and Jean for jumping in feet first and helping us! You are truly part of our extended Chessie family!!!
Finally the last leg for the day! Louie is picked up in Cape Girardeau by his innkeeper for the night Mike. Louie has had a long day. His system has been stressed and he has been car sick, has a case of the runs but has still been described as
-
“such a sweet boy”,
- “no trouble at all”,
- “I wanted to keep Louie myself, he’s such a beautiful, sweet dog.”
Louie spent the night in Murphysboro IL
with Mike. Louie did well Saturday night-had to go out every couple hours – he ate well last night obviously very hungry from the traveling!!! That traveling and greeting people is hard work. He had a couple Pepto tabs and some Dramamine before the start of the Sunday trip. He passed the sweet dog test at Mike’s.
As of this writing, Louie is on his way to Springfield where CRROW adopter and volunteer, Jeff is waiting to escort him further north!!! I will update again at the end of today.
THANK YOU to our Saturday Louie Drivers!!! We can not thank you enough!!! Lots of Chessie smiles and Roo Roo’s to ALL OF YOU!!!
